Stibbert Museum Chest of Drawers
Conservation treatment was carried out on a 17th-century chest of drawers from the collection of the Museo Stibbert in Florence. The Stibbert Museum holds one of the largest private collections of armour and decorative arts in Europe, assembled by the Anglo-Italian collector Frederick Stibbert in the 19th century.
The treatment addressed structural instability in the carcass and drawer construction, as well as surface deterioration including loss of finish and minor damage to the decorative surface. Work aimed to stabilise the object, consolidate areas of weakness, and preserve the existing surface without unnecessary intervention.
Throughout treatment, decisions were guided by the principles of minimal intervention and reversibility, in keeping with accepted standards for the conservation of historic furniture.
